Wedding Hair and Makeup for a Brazilian Beauty

The moment Juliane walked into my house for her wedding and makeup trial, I knew we were going to get on. She walked in with a massive smile on her face, ready to let me paint and create her perfect wedding makeup. She was everything I imagined from her emails, confident, down to earth and had a great sense of humour, a true Brazilian beauty. Juliane had explained over emails that her English was not great. It wasn’t true her English was excellent!

Under any other circumstance, I could have sat for hours listening to her life, family and travels. Of course, my first question to her was “why are you getting married in the Lake District and not Brazil”? Having never been to Brazil myself my imagination of Brazil is that it is full of colour and dancing. I thought to myself that her husband Oliver who is from Manchester must have some excellent persuasion skills!

Like most wedding brides, Juliane had a few directional images on Pinterest, which gave us a good starting point. Within minutes, we were both clear as to what we were going to do with her wedding hair and makeup. The wedding was at the fabulous Askham Hall in Penrith, Cumbria. All I wanted to do is get started and make Juliane’s make up as beautiful as the venue and the Cumbrian landscape she was getting married in.

We finished the wedding trial by chatting through the details of the day, and in particular, spent time discussing the hair and makeup for the bridesmaids. All that remained was to wait for the day to arrive. I was so looking forward to it!

The morning of the wedding

On the morning of Julianne and Oliver’s wedding, I woke up early and, excitedly, I got going early doors. I made good time getting to Penrith and was eager to get started. The grand medieval building and courtyard are like entering the castle from Beauty and The Beast. Many passages and doors reminded of my childhood dreams, wondering if they have a forbidden West Wing. I was suddenly brought back to reality when I bumped into Vicky. Vicky is the superb wedding planner at Askham Hall; she is capable, accommodating and friendly. Vicky can arrange most things, and if I had asked for a four-leaf clover, I’m pretty sure Vicky would have found me one.

Stood outside the Lonsdale bridal suite, I knocked quietly to not wake any sleeping guests. To my surprise, the groom himself greeted with the biggest hug. Oliver (as I rarely meet the grooms) was a perfect match for his Bride Juliane. Welcomed into the stunning bridal suite, which had one roll-top bath, a large walk-in shower, and an enormous bed fit for a Queen. Most importantly, for me, lots of natural light.

Bridesmaids Hair and Makeup

I was only minutes into starting on the first Bridesmaids hair and makeup when in, walked the wedding photographers Cath and Alex. The warm and welcoming duo instantly cranked up the banter in the room. Both Cath and Alex are incredibly talented at capturing the perfect moment, yet skilled at never letting you know they were there. Gabi, my first bridesmaid was soon done, and I moved quickly onto Tais who asked for naturally glowing skin and a few braids in her hair. I secretly love plaiting, so it delighted to do this.

Next up was Juliane’s hair and makeup, I’d just started, and the flowers arrived. Kevin from Brackens of Bowness had done a beautiful job of the bouquets, and the boutonnières were just gorgeous.  The florists had made a stunning flower crown, and I placed and pinned it carefully on Julianne’s hair. Juliane looked stunning just like a true princess ready to marry her prince. My job was complete, and Juliane and Oliver’s wedding at Askam Hall was fabulous, I felt so lucky to be a part of it.
